The Little Princess came to visit early today. Her Mommy is co-hosting a baby shower for a friend of hers tomorrow and needed to do some last minute things and enlisted our help. We picked her up at the mall because we were walking there with my sister and brother-in-law. That was an easy drop-off spot for Mommy since she had other things to do. Little Princess didn’t have a problem with us taking her. She was shy around the relatives, but as soon as we got away from them she was her usual chatty (in her language), happy little self.
Some of the fun things from today:
(a) The little Fisher-Price tea set I bought for The Little Princess and me has a teapot which plays the music “I’m a little teapot”. I looked over one time and there she stands imitating She’s a little teapot, short and stout, here is my handle, here is my spout. I think her mommy has played that little game with her and the little tea pot playing reminded her of it.
(b) When she gets a little messy and spills something on the floor, she is pretty good about helping clean it up. She picks up her mess and takes it to the trash can and put it where it belongs.
(c) When she and I are reading a book she pushes my hand away. This has been going on for a while now. She likes to be in control of the book by herself. She doesn’t understand it’s hard for me to look over her now getting taller little head and hold the book at the same time, but then again, she doesn’t want me holding it, that’s her problem with me!
(d) When she’s on your shoulder she has a way of patting you on the back as her way of showing you she loves you. That little hand gently taps, taps, taps. Such a sweet little expression.
(e) Today her mommy decided it might be a good day to try to get her to use a sippy cup for some milk. Prior to this she would have nothing to do with drinking milk from a cup. We have a nipple-like attachment for the sippy cup, not just the juice type one. I started out giving her about ¼ cup of skim milk (the only kind I have). I know she needs whole milk, but hey, you try what you have. Before, she would have nothing to do with milk except from the only means she’s ever known, but she gave it a try and she actually liked it. She drank almost the whole ¼ cup and wanted more later. So, maybe we’re getting there.
(f) Her naptime today ended with a short thirty minute nap. She was going strong until 9:00 p.m. with only thirty-minutes nap. She didn’t want anything to do with the paci. Mommy says she does that when she thinks you want her to sleep. She knows she will go to sleep if she has it in her mouth, so she’s not falling for that one.
(g) When Granddaddy was keeping her alone today, she went over and got a diaper and took it to him so he could change her. Sometimes you have to make yourself clear when men are left in charge or you'll sit in a wet diaper all day long! When I would ask for it, she would bring me the diaper, cream and wipes so I could change her. As my mother used to say about my first born when he would tell me, “Change my diaper, change my diaper!” When he can tell you to change his diaper, he’s old enough to be potty-trained! He knew clearly when his diaper needed changing, he just didn’t want to use the potty. But he was a little fellow. He really wasn’t ready for potty-training. But it was funny. Then again, throw-away diapers didn’t hold as much water as they do now.
(a) They spent the night since Mommy has to be in this direction early in the morning. After mommy got her down for bed around 9:00 or 9:30 she woke again screaming around 12:00 a.m. Don’t know if this was from teething or what’s going on with her at this point.
So those are just a few of the fun things I remembered from today.
