She's a little chatterbox

Monday, August 11, 2008
Little Princess is certainly bursting forth with her words! More and more every day she comes forth with quite a few more.

Last week her mommy made a "date" with us to keep Annabelle today because she needed to go out and interview someone in relation to her job. Since we couldn't come up with a good excuse not to keep her, I mean, since we always jump with joy to keep Little Princess, we accepted the challenge. When we were ready to start our adventure for the day which is always Granddaddy's excuse for eating out, we took her out for breakfast.

First let me preface this by saying this: All teasing aside, we must love that little girl, well, both of those girls to spend time with her, for us to get ourselves out of bed after four hours of sleep (too much excitement anticipating keeping her, I guess,) and tromping seventeen miles to her house, in Metro traffic, on the first day of school, beginning in the entire area, and leaving at 6:45 to arrive at her house to find she's still sleeping and will until around 8:00. We had agreed to call Mommy as we left the house. Her alarm clock, I suppose because she sounded awfully groggy as I asked her if she was awake and up yet. To which she replied in a very whispered voice..."I'm getting up now." Whew, that was a l-o-n-g
thought, huh? But at least we were there on time. That's good for old folks.

Back to breakfast...as we were leaving for McDonald's she gets to the car and into the carseat and she says, "backseat", another new word I haven't heard out of her before today. She said it several times, Mommy. She really did! Clearly she said it.

At McDonald's I couldn't get myself organized enough so I had to make another trip back out to the car to get something. A young girl was standing behind her car next to ours and I thought she was talking on the cell phone with an ear piece because she was saying something. A choice word came from her mouth and I glanced over to hear her say, "I've locked my keys in my car." In the trunk, no less. She worked at a doctor's office or a hospital because she had on her cute little top. She went back into McDonald's and we talked to her. She had called a road service and since it was getting warmer outside she brought her food inside to finish it while she waited. Well, she waited and waited and waited until they finally came.

It was a funny sight to watch that person try to get into that car. Now this was supposed to be a professional, but you would never have known it. He/she was finally able to break in after probably twenty more minutes. The girl was finally on her way. I shot her a thumbs up as she drove off to which she smiled, waved and then shot me one back. I hope that's the worst part of her day. I really felt so bad for her. I laughed and told Granddaddy I hoped she didn't think I was sending her an Obama fist. She probably thought I was just a little old lady who didn't really know how to express myself to her. But it really was a thumbs up for getting into her car and on her way at last. I know it was stressful for the poor girl. And I hope there was someone at work to open up because she was very late.

While we sat inside just killing time and waiting for everybody to finish eating, Little Princess and I played a game of "I spy, with my little eye". We would spy big yellow school buses, trucks with ladders on top and wondered what they were going to use their ladders for today. We would spy big city buses carrying people to their jobs or smaller buses that transported people to and from the airport. We spied some pretty balloons, but some big giant car had the nerve to cover those from our view, so we couldn't enjoy them long. Finally, after a few of the "I spies" she got excited and started saying, "I, I, I, I" to let me know she had spied something too. Mostly she spied those big yellow school buses. She was so cute. And "bus" was another word for her today.

After walking with the usual relatives and doing a little shopping it was time to go home and change a wet, wet baby girl's diaper. Sorry baby girl. That involved changing not only her diaper but the entire wardrobe. Now this child has way too many clothes as it is, but try to find some pants that match the top and then shoes that go with those...oh, that is a job! I found one little top and bottom that matched and I asked her if her pants went on top of her head? She quickly informed me, "No, no. On bottom. On bottom!" We played this little game for a while. Only to find out after getting her fully dressed the top was missing a crucial button. Back to the closet and drawers.

I finally finished dressing her. Now here's where I defend her mother. If you are one who thinks Mommy isn't exerting herself enough and she's just letting an almost two-year old rule the roost, then YOU try getting a kid dressed literally on the run. Normally she's very cooperative, but some little button has been installed and is suddenly working full speed because for the first time today, even I wasn't able to catch her without exerting quite a bit of energy.

Granddaddy thought it was so funny to watch Annabelle running through the house with Grandmother close at hand with either a handful of pony tail or an outfit half hanging from a naked baby. And did I mention, I forgot to remove the pants that went with the other outfit and carried her out in public with a flowered pair of pants underneath a cute little green checked dress that in no way matched or resembled matching. I didn't see that until after we had carried her out to lunch and returned for another diaper change and nap time. She's probably lucky she even had a diaper on when we left with all the commotion she caused.

I'm going to make up a sign for her to wear, "I dressed myself this morning. Didn't I do a great job?" Or, "Don't blame Grandmomma; My Mommy dressed me this morning."

And while I was chasing her to either put those clothes on or brush that hair, the hair brush drops from my hand. Her reaction? "Ut oh, brush fall! Ut oh, brush fall!" And later when her juice fell it became "Ut oh, juice fall."

The last time we kept her she would talk about Mama and I would ask her where she was. I would tell her Mommy was at work and she would repeat, "Mama, burk". This time she didn't need my help. She would talk about Mommy and she would say "Mommy-burk, "Daddy-burk." She knows where they both are and she's calling them Mommy and Daddy instead of Mama and Dada. So cute and sweet. I love those little changes!
Later in the afternoon when we pulled into the driveway and she would miss Mommy she said "Mommy at work." Three word sentence. And also when we drove up in the drive way one time she said, "Home". She had also said this when we pulled into our driveway the last time she came to see us and we had returned home.

Some more of the words she uses: Pretty, pretty; bwoke (broke) when one of her little punched out flowers I had given her to entertain her in the car, came apart; and pay for play. Sues on/sues off (shoes on/shoes off.) And add the word "Keys" is on her list now.

She has a little purse that her uncle, aunt and two cousins gave her for her birthday. She loves carrying that little purse with it's change purse, lipstick, cell phone and who knows what else, with her as she heads out the door. In the back seat of the car, armed with her little cell phone she says, "Hi ya, hi ya" or "Hi, Mommy" "Hi, Daddy".

And she's becoming a true "blackberry addict". She even had to use her cell phone at dinner, carrying on quite a conversation. I expect her to pick up on texting soon, if she hasn't already.

While I'm covering dinner I'll add this. She had a major melt down as soon as she saw Mommy. Mommy is right. She just let it all out shortly after getting home. It was time to eat, but not what Mommy had prepared for her. She wanted a snack she had gotten from Mommy's pure. It looked better than the delicious baked Ziti with spinach we were having. She ate a bite and wanted it off her plate. Mommy gave her an avocado, which she loved. However, she finished the avocado with green all over her hands and then her face. She was covered! She smeared here and she smeared there and laughed the whole time. Then she looked at her Mommy and said, "Pic-sure, pic-sure". She wanted Mommy to take her picture. Of course Mommy did! Is this not a child who has had her picture made way too many times? She knew it would be a good shot for future reference, I suppose. But she was cute!

Then after much priming, she was ready for another dry diaper and dry clothes. I checked her as I took her down and mentioned she was wet again. She immediately said, "Bi-per" and headed off to her room for a diaper. She brought it back into the living room for me to change her. And I got in trouble for this. Mommy only changes her using the changing table; Grandmomma changes her whereever she can best get her to cooperate/or catch her to change it! Mommy was afraid we were starting a bad habit. "Pfft!"

Mommy was going to try to change her, but No, that wasn't the plan. For some reason she thinks Grandmomma should be the one to change her. When her mother grabbed the diaper, Little Princess looks at her mother, put that little hand up and says only in Annabelle style, "No, Mommy, No, no!" I'm such a lucky woman!

One of the cutest things she did was walk past Shadow, her kitty. Shadow apparently didn't move out of her way, so as she walked past her, Annabelle said, "Shoes me, Kitty Cat." She used her sweetest little voice. That was "Excuse me, kitty cat."

And since I'm already all over the place with these things that have happened today, here I will add that at lunch time she got her hands on a ticket for food. She did this a few weeks back when we were eating out. I tell her that is her portion of the bill she will have to pay for her food. She likes that. She sat and read "her" ticket while Granddaddy looked at his. She would use her little finger and "read" her ticket as she went along. She did the same thing with some papers she found at home which she claimed as her own. That little finger guided its way along the line and she read it to us and herself.

I'm sure I've missed something really really cute I wanted to mention but I'm tired as you can probably see. No editing. I'm still recovering.

Wednesday is another day. Obviously this wasn't written on Monday night. We arrived home way too late and the bed was beckoning me. So, Wednesday is tomorrow to me and we'll see just what fun she'll provide for us then.

And one last thing to share: One of the cutest things to listen to during the evening meal once Little Princess had settled down was the following conversation when Mommy left the room to get another "big, big, big, big piece" of avocado went like this:

"Mommy?"
"Annabelle?"
"Mommy?"
"Annabelle?"
"Mommy?"
"Annabelle?"
"Mommy?"
"Annabelle?"
"Mommy?"
"Annabelle?"
"Mommy?"
"Annabelle?"

This continued on until finally Little Princess broke out in smiles and the conversation ended when Mommy returned to the room.

And you thought she'd never say Mommy! We tried to warn you. But isn't it the sweetest words you've ever heard?

All that running around

All week long I have been trying my best to find two of the cutest stamps Hobby Lobby has added to their shelves...or maybe they hadn't really been added yet since they were very illusive. This week was a good time to get any new stamps since HL had them for 50% off and that is a much better price than paying full-price.

The first HL store I went into had a picture of both of them, but alas, there was only a blank spot, and I didn't know if they had sold out or if they just hadn't gotten the stamps in. I found it hard to believe they had sold out since I was there pretty much first thing Monday morning.

I didn't even know the name of the stamp or which company made it, nor did I have paper to write down the number they had provided. Not that I could find it by that number, I discovered, but I felt it would have helped, maybe!

One was a cute little cowboy riding his horse and the other was a prissy little girl.
The little cowboy would be perfect for a sweeet little two-year old boy who has an up-coming third birthdday in October! I fell in love with that stamped image and had to have the stamp.

We hit five stores in a circle and still couldn't find those elusive stamps anywhere, but I still didn't want to give up, so I decided we would make our final stop at the last store, #6, when we went in that direction on Saturday.

My son had called earlier while we were out walking and left a message on the machine inviting us to meet his family for dinner and grill out on Saturday so I knew we would be heading in the direction without having to make an out of the way trip.

And, yes, my son is the worst procrastinator short of being related to his father, that I know. The old sayings, "The apple didn't fall far from the tree" is definitely one that fits my son. My profession in earlier years was secretary. Now known as Administrative Assistant. I still prefer the title secretary. Now, don't judge me this late in the game on my skills. They've become a bit rusty simply because I don't like to go back, proof my stuff or write it properly. My point in relating this was simply to let you know just how frustrating it can be to a mother who tried to raise a son who had no interest in being organized, prompt, efficient with a half-way decent memory, etc. especially when she has done this forever!

He has not changed! He was supposed to have called earlier in the week or maybe even last week to set up this date with us, but did he remember? No! But in all fairness, he is a very busy man, however, this is typical behavior for him so I shouldn't have been too surprised, but it was pretty frustrating to try to understand just what he was saying over the answering machine. Since he's relocated up north where all the yankees live, he's picked up some bad habits. He talks so fast and strange you can't understand him! He denies it, but it's true.

After a number of re-runs of the answering machine we finally figured out pretty much the gist of the conversation was an invitation to eat together. E-mails are a bit better for firming up things when you can't understand their English!

The man is lucky to have a good secretary! He could never survive the everyday life without the best secretary. I know he must frustrate her so much and she definitely earns every penny he pays her. I have no doubts about that. He had better hope he is blessed forever with a good secretary, is all I can say.

I know, I know, I got a bit off task here, but I just had to add that little part of my thoughts about him...

We left early so we could make it by the final location in an attempt to find those silly stamps. Just as I was so convinced I would never own them, there they were on the shelf. I was so excited. I could hardly believe I wasn't dreaming. They were finally mine! The last one of each! I guess those were really that popular and they were meant to be mine because they now belong to me. Now I just must get busy before October to get Beautiful blue eyes card made.

I was able to get out of the store so we could meet the kids and their families without being late. But I was oh, so very happy!

Just as we pulled onto their street we could see a bajillion kids riding bikes, scooters and what have you on their cul-de-sac. We were able to determine at least two of them belonged to our brood; the rest were neighborhood rugrats. Then sitting on a bench by his dad sat BBE getting his helmut adjusted before he, himself, hit the street with his little almost three-year old body! He was absolutely so adorable I could hardly believe it. Such a cutie and even though we've seen him very recently, he appeared to have grown up before our eyes!

He saw us and ran to give us a big hug and kiss then jumped on his scooter and zoomed out with the other kids just in time to see Little Princess appear with her parents. That changed his plans because he had been looking forward to seeing her all afternoon.

The other two jumped off their chosen mode of transportation and greeted us with the middle child sweetly and politely introducing us to his friend, a little girl from next door. I thought that was very considerate of him.

As a footnote, last October just before BBE turned two that little mess could scoot around on his scooter quite efficiently. I was amazed he had such control over that thing with one little foot. That age is still a time of being coordinated enough to stand on two feet, so it was pretty amazing the control the little rascal had over that scooter.

We all enjoyed a very delicious meal of barbequed ribs. My daughter and I agreed they were even better than Norman's Landing which has the very best ribs she and I have ever had (short of the ones my daughter-in-law's parents prepare.) This was indeed their recipe so we knew they couldn't be anything but scrumptious. Very time-consuming, but the.very.best.

Annabelle and James loved each other so much. They stuck together, thick as thieves, the whole time they were together. They would run around that house and laugh and play like they saw each other everyday. They have spent some time together, but not a tremendous amount. I thought Annabelle would have been more shy than she was, but she just jumped right in and acted like he was a big brother. They hugged and kissed each other like old friends. Just too cute. I can see her absorbing lots of new things to stash in her arsenal to use against her mommy later.

Just to document...she is beginning to use the sweet words "Mommy" and they (Mom and Dad) said she used "Daddy" first instead of Mama and Dadda. Growing up way too fast.
Change so much everyday.

Her aunt suggested Little Princess and BBE go up to his room and play with his toys. Mommy didn't hear that the times she said that, but when she finally did she discreetly vetoed that idea. No way was Little Princess going to be out of the view of one of us adults. Mommy would never allow her to be unsupervised where she could put something in her mouth, or get into who knows what. I knew that as soon as I heard that suggestion. Ohh, that Mommy is one protective little Mama Hen. And I say, "good for you!", but I know that little girl is going to become even more independant just because somewhere down the road she's going to have to be because of Mommy's protectiveness. And, I'm not at all criticizing you, Mommy. You do a great job of giving her freedom within the limits she needs. I'm just a saying...

They moved down to destroy the bottom floors of the house. Later as we were enjoying brownies and ice cream for dessert and still watching two little bodies carefully, we heard a "crash" come from the family room. Ohh, that sounded bad! Up jumps Mommy to assess the damage and there was Little Princess. I wasn't really within view, but what I saw was Little Princess appearing to climb on a chair near a table with a picture on it. I knew the picture glass was broken. It was such a horrible crash. She wasn't hurt, but she had apparently knocked the picture off the table while attempting to keep up with her cousin's antics of climbing on the furniture, he on one side of the table, she on the other.

That must have been one strong picture glass because it survived the fall, despite the awful clatter it made.

Her aunt just thought it was funny. She's accustomed to rough and tough little boys tearing the house apart. One more little body didn't seem to bother her at all.

Those two little kids almost ran themselves completely down running throughout that house. There were many entrances and exits they could choose to get away from the other and they used them. In and out, in and out, back and through, again and again, until I thought they would drop in their tracks, but they didn't!

They really had fun together and sometime soon we'll have to arrange to take BBE from his "school" and let the two of them play together again. (That's his name for daycare. He doesn't like to feel like he's a baby, anymore. He now goes to school like the big boys.) But, I know he won't be offended at all if Grandmomma and Granddaddy take him from school for a few days. All too soon they'll both be in "big" school and those fun times together will be gone.

And yet another item to record

Still another thing while I'm thinking about it...Little Princess has, for several weeks or maybe even a few months, felt the need to sit on the potty once her diaper is off for changing.

While on the trip she remembered the need more frequently. I'm not sure if maybe she thought I should put her on the potty and that was fun for her or what her thoughts were that twirled around inside that cute little head. Whatever the reasons she always seemed to remind me before a clean diaper was put onto her sweet little bottom..."Pot-tee, pot-tee!" It's a learning experience if nothing else and it may take another year or two before she understands she really has to make a tinkle or do her business on the potty. It certainly will take longer than just a quick brush with the toliet seat before she accomplishes this latest mission. I consider this small step a rather major step afterall.

And another ritual with her while at Auntie Mary's...Auntie Mary kept a small rug in the bathroom which little Annabelle felt was her own personal cushiony changing table. She would never let her diaper be changed without first re-arranging that little rug, just so. I can't blame her. I don't think I would want my naked bottom come in contact with a very cold, hard tile floor.

Another habit she developed which we had to live with was re-arranging the portable toliet paper dispenser. Auntie Mary kept it close by for anyone who needed it, but Miss Annabelle, seeing her mother move it so she could take a shower each morning, decided when I would return the dispenser to its proper place, that it really needed to be half way across the room. That was so much fun...trying to stretch for the toliet paper because you hadn't noticed little compulsive one had moved it back where she thought it needed to go.

Children and grandchildren can really entertain you every day of their lives if you just watch them and see what they do next. There is no reason for anyone to lead a boring life when they have a little one around. You just have to carefully observe or follow their movements and you never lack for some really fun entertainment. Day after day after day.

I only wish I had had a computer so I could have reported on so many funny things my two bright little kids did when they were little.

On occasion I will find little notes I've written with dates on them and things the boys did that struck me so funny. Sometimes I've been known to write up the events while they were fresh in my mind and stick them behind pictures or scrapbooking pages I've made and put into albums. Someday they may find things as interesting as I did when I wrote them down.

I have several books that I have written random things in that pertain to Little Princess that I never recorded before I started blogging. It gets old for me to write by hand, so I don't keep it up all the time. I just hope this doesn't get lost or I will lose a lot of memories.

I missed almost two years of the boys' lives except for things that happened when we/they visited or funny events that happened and was relayed to me by their mother, but I do treasure the memories I have. I just need to try to stay faithful to writing in this blog as things hit me. Sometimes that's an awfully hard thing to do.

Let's all look pretty now...

One of the days we visited with our friends, Little Princess was in the bathroom "helping" her mother get all prettied up. Somehow she got control of Mommy's large make-up brush and proceeded to apply make-up to her little face just as she had seen her mommy do.

Suddenly she made a mad dash from the bathroom, make-up brush in hand. We learned very early on in that visit to Auntie Mary's that Annabelle was not to go ANYWHERE without one of us being no more than one step behind her, so since Mommy was busy, I was the one following her. Away she flew to the living room with that brush. It didn't take her long to find her intended victim. She cornered the dog, Francie, and proceeded to apply blush to the doggie's face. Below the eyes and on the tip of her slobbery nose! Boy, was Francie surprised!

Sorry, no picture of that, though it would have been a great shot! I can't always anticipate everything she's going to do fast enough to be armed with camera and keep up with her, too!

I don't think I mentioned to Auntie Mary that Francie was "made up" for the day. I may have told Mommy, but I'm not sure. Anyway, you might want to clean that make-up brush before you use it again, Mommy. Oh well, guess it is a litte late for that now, huh?

Some more bits and pieces from vacation/present days

Just some more thoughts I wanted to record that happened while we were away on our trip a couple of weeks ago.

This one is something Little Princess has been doing for some time now. Don't know exactly how long its happened but to me, it's cute:

When we give her food, she instantly thinks it's hot and she runs her hand over the top of it in voo doo style, circle wise. You have to see it for it to be so funny, I'm sure, but it is so cute. And, of course, she informs us it's hot whether it is or not!

Speaking of using her hands, I've noticed she is a bit Italian...she speaks so much with her hands. That mouth runs and those hands express whatever she's trying to say. Have you noticed that, too, Mommy? If not, watch her sometimes. She's very expressive.

Also, while we were riding along probably on the way back home from our trip, I can't remember exactly, I heard a little, "oof, oof", coming from the carseat next to me. I thought Annabelle had seen a dog outside, but I didn't see one, so I looked at her and she was pointing up to the sky. It was covered with the most beautiful puffy clouds! She kept saying "Oof, oof!" I asked her did she see some doggies in those clouds? She smiled so big and said, "Yah!"

Apparently her creativity is beginning to shine through. I can remember days of lying on the ground looking up and seeing all kinds of magical creatures in the clouds around me as well. It certainly wasn't at 20-21 months old,I don't think, but we'll document this for her just in case she doesn't remember her first experience with "seeing things" in those clouds!

And, this isn't all that big a deal, but it was funny to me anyway...while we were playing on the porch the other day she had assigned a little yellow tea cup for me. She would pour the tea into my cup and I would drink out of it. Somehow I got side tracked and put the cup down while searching for something else. I forgot to pick it up again, but she wouldn't let me forget for long. She immediately went over and got my little yellow cup for us to continue our tea. This happened on several different occasions. She just couldn't let me get away with putting my cup down. I was to have it in my possession at all times while we were having our tea party!

She is filled with so many new things...

I am so far behind on my blogging I'll never get caught up, but just because it's something I don't want to forget I'll add this...

For some reason Annabelle wasn't very cooperative with her mommy today and they were closer to afternoon getting over here so she could stay with us so Mommy could work. Well, really at least it was very close to lunch time!

We did our usual...eat, play, sleep, eat, play, etc.

While she was having her snack of peaches later in the afternoon, she looked on my refrigerator and saw a picture of my other daughter's (in reality, the little girl who lived across the street, who grew up to be a mommy, herself and one of my daughter's best friends) baby girl. She kept pointing at it and saying..."Bebe, At-tie". She had finally spoken her words that she has known forever and let me know she recognized baby Adie. She has spoken of her brother before but this was the first time I had heard her put a name to Adie.

Before lunch she had wanted to play out on the screened in porch because she remembered we had played out there a few times before. It's a good place to play even though it's hot outside. (It was only 92 in the shade.) There are no mosquitos to annoy us; I don't have to worry about a car hitting her; and it's just plain pleasant to hear the birds singing out there. Did I mention, though, it's hot out there, but it would have been hot in the front yard, too.

We did have to make a couple of runs into the house to grab a couple of bears...namely Teddy and Carebear. Later she had to have a bapkin (that's her word for napkin.) She didn't want to go back in to play for any length of time even though the air conditioning felt awfully good. She was perfectly happy being "outside". That may present a problem when the hot weather turns into winter weather, but we'll take that day when it comes.

Another thought...When Mommy left her with us this morning she hugged and kissed her and then stood at the door and watched her as she left. She would tell her "Bye!" and close the kitchen door, open it slightly, peek out, tell her bye again and close it again and again until Mommy finally left.

Little Princess would mention Mommy during the day, frequently. Even though she was quite content with us, Mommy was never far away in her thoughts. I would tell her Mommy would be back later and ask her if she knew where Mommy was. She smiled and said, "Bye". I would tell her Mommy went to work, and asked her again where her Mommy was. She would say, "Burk." That was her word for work. She gets a few first letters crossed at times, but nothing that's that crucial, I don't think, once you understand her own little version of the word.

She has really come out with her words over the last few weeks. It's amazing how they hold those words in and then suddenly let them loose. She said several other things that were new to me, but I can't remember all of them now. This is such a wonderful age to be around a little one!

After she and I had played for a while on the porch, she looked toward the door and smiled and said, "Mama!", but she continued to play. I turned around and surely enough there stood her mommy watching her play. When the door pulled opened, she immediately started to move her her little table where she was sitting playing with her little teaset and said, "No, no! MINE! My chair, my chair!" She headed toward the glider chair she claims as her own when anyone else comes near. She only allows her teddy and/or Carebear to sit there when she isn't using it. They negotiated, and Mommy won. This time.

She's really not being obnoxiously hateful; she's just trying to establiish her boundaries, too, since it appears that lately she's finding more established for her!

Someday I'll catch up on my previous posts. I'm still recovering for now, and there are just too many pictures to choose that are so cute, it's tiring just thinking about it.
