I recently listened over the baby monitor as my daughter attempted to conquer my granddaughter, The Little Princess and make her take that much despised afternoon nap. All those consistent, rhythmic and patient sounds of shhh…shhh…shhh…shhh, over and over and over trying to put The Little Princess into a sleep stupor made Grandmomma wish she could curl up on the sofa for a nice long nap. Just as predictable as those quiet shhhs, were the sounds from a sweet baby’s mouth… babbling, singing, louder and louder, trying so hard to tune out her mommy’s shhh… shhh…shhh.
After thirty minutes or more of this babbling and shushing, her mommy finally puts her down, still wide awake. All those sweet baby babblings instantly turned into wailing and gnashing of teeth, until finally mommy gives it up and checks on The Little Princess once again.
Score another win for The Little Princess. If you want to skip your afternoon nap, schedule your poopy time right after mommy puts you down. That’ll do it every time!
